About the Artist | ||||||||||
![]() MB Hopkins is an illustrator & designer at the Dayton Daily News where she has worked since 1984. She graduated cum laude with a degree in fine arts from Wright State University in 1983 and in the same year attended the Yale University School of Music & Art on scholarship. Her work incorporates a variety of media including acrylic, charcoal, pencil and ink. An active participant in regional arts organizations, MB is a former member of the Dayton Printmaker's Cooperative and a current member of DVAC, the Dayton Visual Arts Center. Her work has been included in many local exhibitions including the Victoria Theatre, Stivers School for the Arts, Dayton Visual Arts Center Members' Show, the annual DVAC Art Auction, Seattle East Coffee Shop, the Yellow Springs Baking Co., the Woodland Cemetery Annual Photography Show, and the Dayton Lesbian and Gay Center's Pride Celebration. She and Jane Black were co-curators for the Matter of Heart show, a fundraising exhibition of 20 local artists in January 2001. MB has received numerous honors for her newspaper illustration and design, including awards from the international Society of News Design, National Headliners (sponsored by the Press Club of Atlantic City), Print Magazine Regional Design, Applied Arts Annual of Canada, the Associated Press Society of Ohio, the Society of Professional Journalists/Queen City Chapter, the Cleveland Press Club, Best of Cox, and, locally, ArtCenter Dayton and the Dayton Daily News Publisher's Award.
